Short History

At first, the DVD was developed as a substitute for VHS tapes, but soon they became well-known as a data storage device. In 1972 CD was developed as a medium of entertainment. Back in 1993, two video disc formats were being developed, the Multimedia Compact Disc (MMCD) along with the Super Density (SD) disc. DVD took over CD as a medium of entertainment and information storage. Twister was the first movie put on DVD on 25 March, 1996.

DVD Types

  • DVD-ROM: You can only read the data in it, that is, you cannot make any changes to any type of data in it.
  • DVD – R: In this, you can record the data only once. Once the data is recorded, the data cannot be deleted again.
  • DVD – RW: In this, you can record and read the data. You can erase that data and you can re-record the new data.
